Carbon XPRIZE
CERT
Toronto, Canada
CERT is a multidisciplinary team of over 10 researchers from chemistry, materials science and engineering based at the University of Toronto. Led by Prof. Ted Sargent and Prof. David Sinton, we have invented a technology that efficiently converts CO2 emissions into fuels and chemical feedstocks. When powered by renewable energy sources, our process provides net-neutral production of precursors for fuels and consumer plastic. At the heart of our technology is a record-breaking electrocatalyst that combines CO2, protons from water, and electrons, to make valuable chemicals such as ethylene.
The team has received support from a number of industrial and governmental partners, including the Ontario Centres of Excellence, the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and Natural Resources Canada.
