Silicate Carbon accelerates silicate and carbonate mineral weathering to durably sequester atmospheric carbon dioxide and amend soil pH in farmland. The company has relentlessly pushed enhanced weathering science forward by developing a very large database of shallow soil-water chemistry across multiple continents; it also leads the world’s first long-term continuous greenhouse gas flux trial in enhanced weathering, and is advancing novel, proprietary, high-precision isotopic methods to unlock carbon dioxide removal measurement at scale. The company is headquartered in Dublin with a U.S. subsidiary in Chicago. Silicate Carbon weathers fast-dissolving and abundant materials, such as reactive silicate minerals and limestone, in agricultural settings to reliably draw down atmospheric carbon dioxide, while helping farmers to increase the productivity of their soils by optimizing soil pH for crop growth. The company’s enhanced weathering protocol maximizes the carbon removal potential of farmland by (i) increasing the ratio of carbonic acid to nitric acid weathering in farmland, and (ii) reducing nitrous oxide and nitrate losses from soils. Silicate Carbon’s soil pH amendment process and mass balance measurement protocol ensure reliable carbon dioxide removal on farmland that is repeatable, scientifically rigorous, and scalable to agricultural systems worldwide, helping to bolster soil health and foster a more resilient food chain.
