Steradian Technologies is a biotech startup developing the RUMI, the first noninvasive, fast, accurate, affordable, fully portable infectious disease diagnostic device that detects disease in breath. The device doesn't need a lab, and can be used by a trained technician or community healthcare worker. The RUMI is currently being developed for a B2B2C market for COVID-19 and influenza A/B, and has early traction in lung cancer and tuberculosis.
The RUMI uses proprietary photonics technology that circumvents the need to amplify or manipulate a disease sample. The device uses photonics for rapid amplification and detection in under 30 seconds, and can monitor population disease spread in real-time. The device will be the first human bio-aerosol specimen collector to convert breath into a fully sterile liquid sample, allowing for many applications in direct disease detection, such as immediate point-of-care diagnosis for viruses, bacteria, and lung cancer.
